If you looking for something close to paradise then go to Elba in Italy.
Situated in the Tuscan archipelago it has a spectacular coastline, chestnut woods, lots of flowers, plants and treasures from another era. The beautiful island is certainly going to give you an unforgettable holiday in Italy!
The island is part of a famous region and just 10 kilometres away you will reach the capital port of Portoferraio. In 1814 Napoleon arrived in the city and built his famous palace which you can still see through the steep streets amongst some even more impressive buildings. The shops sell fantastic souvenirs and whilst in the harbour you can watch the fishermen at work and dine on the local cuisine.
Elba is a hilly island and when you leave the capital there are winding mountain roads where you can gaze at breathtaking views. You will drive past vineyards, through chestnut woods and see the Mediterranean plants and butterflies which are typical of Elba. The highest mountain is Mount Capanne which takes fifteen minutes by cable car to get to the top. At 1000 metres high it overlooks the Tuscan Archipelago and in the distance you can see Corsica and the mainland on the other side.
The nature of Elba is well suited for outdoor sporting activities and you can take adventurous mountain bike rides through the forest. There are plenty of water sports available including sailing, surfing and kayaking and Elba is primarily a destination for divers and snorkelers because the marine life is spectacular! Whether you come just to relax and read a book or go diving you will have a great time exploring some of the 147 kilometres of coastline. There are many sandy beaches and bays nestled between white granite rocks.
